Free NPV Calculator

Compute net present value of an investment from up to eight years of cash flows.

What is the NPV Calculator?

Compute net present value of an investment from up to eight years of cash flows.

Each year's cash flow is discounted by (1 + rate) to the power of the year and summed, then your initial investment is subtracted. A positive NPV means the project beats the discount rate; the tool also shows the profitability index (present value of inflows divided by investment).

Time and consistency do most of the work in saving and investing. Running the numbers shows how small changes in rate, term or contribution add up.

How to use the NPV Calculator

Using the npv calculator takes a minute or two. Your entries are saved in this browser, so you can come back later and carry on.

Step 1

Enter your starting amount, regular contribution, expected return and time period.

Step 2

Read the end value and the split between money you put in and growth.

Step 3

Try a lower return as well as a higher one, because real markets are uneven.

Tips for better results

The discount rate drives the result, so test several. Enter negative values for years with extra costs, and use consistent annual amounts.

Treat the result as an illustration, not a promise. Returns vary year to year.

Fees and inflation reduce real growth, so consider both when planning.

Privacy and where your data goes

Everything you type into the npv calculator stays on your own device. Zapxa does not receive your numbers or documents. If you clear your browser data, your saved entries will be removed, so download a PDF of anything you want to keep.

Frequently asked questions

What does a negative NPV mean?

The investment returns less than the discount rate, so on these inputs it destroys value compared with your alternative. It does not always mean a loss of cash.

How is NPV different from IRR?

NPV gives a value in money at a chosen rate, while IRR gives the rate at which NPV is zero. NPV is easier to compare for projects of different sizes.

Is the npv calculator free?

Yes. It is free to use with no signup, no watermark and no usage limits.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your inputs are processed in your browser and saved only in its local storage. They are not uploaded to our servers.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Zapxa works on phones, tablets and desktops. Use the print button or download a PDF to keep a copy.
